Ladue

Nestled close between Creve Coeur, Brentwood and Clayton is the city of Ladue. This inner-ring suburb is located just minutes away from St. Louis City, with easy access to Interstates 170 and 64/40. Stretching across 8.55 square miles, Ladue’s population, as of the 2010 census was 8,521 residents.

As the 1900s approached, three local villages (inside Ladue proper) merged and the newly connected land was named Ladue, as a tribute to the French immigrant Peter Albert LaDue, who fought as a member of the 1st New York Regiment during the Revolutionary War. When the war concluded in 1783, LaDue moved to St. Louis and prospered. He quickly became an established attorney, investor and Alderman from 1840 to 1850.

The entire history of Ladue’s prosper was covered in the book “Ladue Found”, written in 2011 by Charlene Bry, a founding co-owner and publisher of the Ladue News from 1985 to 1999.

Residents of Ladue with children attending public school are served by the Ladue School District.

Traditions

One of Ladue’s most famous residents was baseball icon Stan Musial, who lived here prior to his passing in 2013. As a first-ballot inductee into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969, Musial’s career with Major League Baseball and the St. Louis Cardinals is legendary.

The St. Louis Country Club of Ladue is home to a private golf course that is said to be one of the oldest in the country. Designed by Charles B. Macdonald, also known as “The Father of Golf,” the course officially opened in 1892 and is one of only a handful of courses that Macdonald fully designed himself.

Down the road past Ladue City Hall, you’ll find the ClayPrice Shopping Center which is home to many of Ladue’s local restaurants and specialty stores like Lordo’s Diamonds, St. Louis Woman’s Exchange and Sportsman’s Park Restaurant & Bar.
