Today is Free FineArt Friday! Ok, I may have just made that up, but it is true. This is also the last day of the first week of Spring Break for my 8 year old, Nylah. In an effort to continue to explore culture in St. Louis with her, we are going to visit four different venues, a couple of which are featuring opening receptions, to check out some great at here in St. Louis! Feel free to join us! Speaking of free, did I mention that all of these exhibits are free and open to the public. That means you and me! Come and join us!
We will be starting at Contemporary Art Museum for the final days of their Spring Exhibition. I can't believe that I haven't made time to get over there for this exhibit yet! Although I am looking forward to all of the exhibits that they currently have, I am especially excited to see The Brood, by Lisa Yuskavage. Next, we are going to head over to The Philip Slein Gallery to check out Monochromatic Paintings, which is the first St. Louis exhibition for New York painter Robert Sagerman, who merges painting and sculpture within his abstract compositions. Our next stop will be at the Bruno David Gallery where will will attend the opening reception for a couple of great artists. Carmon Colangelo: Theory of Nothing, which will include his newest body of prints, drawings, and mixed media works inspired by cosmology and cartography. William Morris: Immediacy of Distance is a video work that will be presented in the Media Arts Room. It is an experimental documentary which uses super 8 film shot by the artist’s mother along with recordings of her recollections of growing up in a sharecropper’s family in the Mississippi Delta. We will finish off our tour at the Regional Arts Commission for Octarrarium, which is a large scale video installation developed by Kevin Harris and Chad Eivins. We will enjoy a live performance event featuring Kevin Harris on Electronics and Alex Cunninham on Solo Violin.
Looking forward to a great evening in St. Louis!
